Social Good Six Interview 41- Pat Armstrong


Pat Armstrong is the Chief Executive of ACOSVO, the Association of Chief Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organisations. Pat has led the IIP Gold accredited organisation since 2003 and having worked in the third sector for over 25 years, she has gained experience of both local and national voluntary organisations from a range of thematic areas. Pat has an MBA from Heriot Watt University and has a particular interest in leadership development in the third sector. This interest led her to establish the Leadership Exchange Programme which brings together leaders from across the third and public sectors for peer support, good practice sharing and personal development.

She has two (now grown up) children, is based in Edinburgh but spends part of her time on a croft in Skye and enjoys reading, hill-walking and travelling.

  • Member of the advisory group for the Future Leaders Forum
  • Founding member of EUCLID, the European Network of Third Sector Leaders



1-       In no more than three sentences, please explain what you do 

I head up Scotland’s third sector leadership organisation.  I work with over 400 amazingly inspirational leaders from across Scotland.  Our vision is excellent third sector leadership in Scotland and everything we do revolves around that ethos – mostly through peer support, good practice sharing and leadership development



2- Who inspires you? 

ACOSVO members.  I’m continually inspired by stories of achievement, innovation and positive outcomes against the odds.



3- What is the biggest change you want to see in the world? 

Equal life chances for all



4- What would you like to be remembered for? 

Resilience, – and hanging on to a smile and a sense of humour wherever possible



5- What is the most interesting new idea you’ve come across in the past year? 

Leadership exchanges – bringing leaders together across sectors to learn from each other and develop peer support – the issues we are working to are not that different
